Also known as the Taman Tasik Perdana, this is the oldest and most popular park in Kuala Lumpur, dating back to the 1880's. Today, city dwellers venture out here for a jog along the beautiful trails or for some early morning t'ai chi. This 92-hectare parkland provides a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of the city, with its close-crapped lawns, undulating hills and carefully cultivated garden, showcasing the harmony, beauty and tranquility created by both nature and man. Build around two lakes, this pleasant oasis within the city provides a cool and soothing ambience, as one walk through a vista of exotic blooms, luxuriant foliage, imposing sculptures, creative theme parks and majestic-looking raintrees. The Lake Gardens also encompasses the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park, Orchid Garden, Hibiscus Garden, Deer Park and Asian Garden.
Kuala Lumpur Bird ParkWorld renowned as the largest covered bird Park or free flight aviary, the Kuala Lumpur Bird Park is home to more than 3,000 birds from more than 200 species worldwide. Located within the Lake Gardens, the sprawling 20.9 hectare beautifully landscaped bird sanctuary was established in 1991. This will truly be an experience as visitors see the various birds perched on trees or free in flight, in an environment that mimic their natural habitat. Some of the birds that you can expect to see here are various hornbills, parrots, cockatoos, storks, flamingos, pheasant, mynahs, unique pigeons, macaws, ducks and many more.
Butterfly Park Kuala LumpurOver 6,000 butterflies make the Kuala Lumpur Butterfly Park their home. Located right next to the Bird Park, the Butterfly Park is designed to resemble the natural habitat of the butterflies, with more than 15,000 plants from over 100 species. There are at least 120 butterfly species here with a nursery and breeding area for the butterflies. Be sure to visit the accompanying insect museum which has some interesting and unusual exhibits.
Hibiscus Garden (Taman Bunga Raya) Kuala LumpurHailed as the Queen of Tropical Flowers, this national flower (bungaraya in Malay) is grown in over 2,200 varieties in this garden, some of them rare and exotic. You will find the hibiscus in large range of colors and varieties, ranging from the single petal variety to the multiple petal varieties. Located within the Lake Gardens, the hibiscus is planted along the footpaths and terraces within the compound of this 0.9-hectare area.
Orchid Garden (Taman Orkid) Kuala LumpurSituated within the Lake Gardens, this park showcases a splendid and stunning variety of orchids. Over 800 varieties are found here, some exotic and rare but all which thrive in this tropical paradise garden. Take a leisurely stroll under the shady pergolas within the grounds garden and take in the beauty of these exquisite flowers. Visitors can buy a plant specimen as a memento of their visit. Cut flowers and plants are sold during the weekends. Look out for the orchid growers at this garden who provide the avid gardener with useful advice and practical tips on cultivating orchids.
